Classes in the Woodshop

We offer classes throughout the year in the woodshed at Turner Wood Designs taught by Rich Turner and guest instructors. We have limited space so classes are limited on a first come basis however classes requiring less bench space can accommodate bigger groups. Most classes are tailored towards group teaching however we do also provide individual and private tuition on a needs be basis.

Classes are advertised on the website and via our Facebook page and typically will be posted during August and January for the following season. Depending on demand we may add additional classes or alter advertised classes if necessary. Classes can book up fast so if you are interested in a class its advisable to book early.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long are classes?

Classes vary in length but typically an evening class lasts 2 1/2 hours, a half day class around 3 hours and a full day class around 7 hours with a break for lunch.. Sometimes classes will take a little longer in order to finish up or be ready for the following day of a multi day class. Multi-day classes have some flexibility with hours and students often opt to work longer to get a project stage complete before the following days session.

Do you provide lunch?

Lunch is on you. There are many local options with a short drive however students usually bring a lunch. Some experience classes may include a lunch and these will be listed in the class descriptions.

How much does a class cost?

Class prices are listed with each advertised class. Students wishing to book multiple classes or work on an ongoing basis we can adjust prices to accommodate.

Why am I being charged a materials fee?

Many classes include materials in the class fee. For larger projects students or more expensive projects a material fee is charged which can vary greatly depending on the species of wood, how much is needed and the amount of preparation required for a class. It can range from as little as $30 to several hundred for larger projects.

Do I need my own Tools?

Tools are provided to share for all classes, however students may find it beneficial to bring their own tools if you have them.

Can I purchase Tools and Materials?

If you are unable to find the tools you need ahead of a class and would like to purchase some let us know and we may be able to help. Some tools are available to purchase for a given class and we can source tools for you after a class has completed. Materials and Jigs are often available for purchase during and after a class and listed on the website. Many Classes will list suggested tools in the class description if appliacble.

How do I pay for a class?

Classes are booked through the website by selecting ‘Book’ next to a given class and selecting the class from the dropdown menus. Once you have placed your booking you will be emailed a booking confirmation and payment request. Once payment is received your class will be booked.

What do I do if I need to cancel?

Cancellations will be accepted unto 4 weeks prior to a class for a full refund, minus any non-refundable fees (payment fees, bank charges). If a cancellation occurs within the 4 week prior to a class a full refund will only be issued if the place can be filled. Many classes involve material and preparation ahead of a class and cancellations may incur material fees being deducted from a full or partial refund. Life sometimes gets in the way and we will always try to accommodate any changes to class bookings however we may not always be able to offer a refund depending on timing or instructor bookings. Classes cancelled within two weeks of a class will not receive a refund.

What do I do if I can’t attend all of a multi-day class?

If you would like to attend a class that is spread over multiple days but can’t attend all the dates then please contact us and we can work something out. Students who start a multi day class but fail to attend all of the days will not be given a refund except under the discretion of the instructor and make up time may not be available where a guest instructor or class timeline has progressed beyond where a student left the project. Students unable to complete a project in a class may book private tuition to complete if necessary.

Where can I stay if I attend a multi day class?

There are many local hotels and motels and plenty of places to eat within 10 minutes of the Woodshop.
